What are you crowding out?

There are three things I want for you:

  1. To make quality decisions that impact your life and work

  2. A wide gaze to see possibilities around you

  3. Knowing you are effective at achieving the goals you set for yourself

I hope you are winning at all three.

But if you’re not, I think I can help.

I have identified a few reasons you might be crowding out your ability to make quality decisions, see possibility, and to be effective at achieving your goals.

And if you’re wondering, no, I didn’t ask ChatGPT for this list.

It is a list based on my years of experience supporting clients just like you.

Below are the three categories that might be crowding out your best thinking and decisive action:

  1. Nervous System & Inner State

    • Stress. Do you have a way of knowing when you are stressed and taking the necessary steps to move through stress and complete the stress cycle? Do you have practices to help bring your stress down?

    • Attention. Does your attention wander without you directing it? Are you pulled by distractions and urgency rather than directing your attention to the things that matter? Is your attention inward when it should be directed outward?

    • Energy. Does your work energize or drain you? Are you good at something but actually hate it?

    • Judgement. Do you spend valuable mental energy judging yourself or others? Has judgement kept you from leaning into curiosity and empathy?

  2. Clarity & Self-Leadership

    • Limiting Beliefs. These can be the hardest to self-identify, but they stop you from making progress or even getting started. They usually come from adverse childhood experiences or some form of self-protection. They often come from what others said about who you were.

    • Desires. What is your relationship with desire? Do you use it as an arrow pointing you in a direction you should go? Is your attention inward when it should be directed outward?

    • Permission. Are you waiting for someone to give you permission to take the risk or pursue your dream?

    • Values. Have you identified what is most important to you at this stage of life and use this to make decisions?

  3. External Support Structure

    • Systems & habits. Systems are like scaffolding. They support you in achieving your goals. What systems do you have in place? They can be counter-productive or super supportive.

    • Environment. You’ve heard me say it before. You create your environment and your environment, in turn, creates you.

    • Scheduling. Do you overschedule? Have you made too many commitments? Do you schedule white space so you can think, create, and innovate?

    • People. You’ve heard me say this before, too. Surround yourself with people who love and support you. Move away from the doubters, the haters, and those who want to bring you down with their negative energy.
