The science of gratitude
There’s a reason why having a gratitude practice is so popular.
It is fantastic for shifting your perspective and helping you focus your attention.
The human brain is wired to focus on negativity.
It’s part of your survival instinct.
For every 9 bits of negative input your brain takes in, it only takes in 1 bit of positive input.
That may help explain things for you.
But here’s what gratitude does for you.
It shifts the 9-1 ratio and makes it more like 6-1, or 5-1.
Why does this matter?
When you direct your attention toward positive things in your life, you interrupt the default.
And optimism is a huge driver for performance.

Gratitude uses your intentionality in your favor.
Don’t let negativity be your default.
Direct your attention to the gifts that abound, big and small.
And watch how that changes things for you.
