What the vision does

At the beginning of every coaching engagement, I draw out the client’s vision for what they want to create.

I know I have been successful in drawing out the vision when it is big enough that it feels slightly impossible.

Having this element of impossibility is important.

And it’s actually not about what the vision is, but what the vision does.

A vision that feels slightly impossible means you can’t maintain the status quo.

If you keep showing up the way you always have, it wouldn’t feel out of reach.

But having a vision and a goal that feels out of reach means you have to show up differently.

It creates a force that pulls you toward it.

And as you are pulled, you transform.

Sometimes there are old beliefs that need to be shed.

Often, your sense of safety needs to be recalibrated.

Almost always, it requires you to try something that feels a little edgy.

And then you transform.

You become a slightly different version of yourself that starts to realize you can create the impossible.

And this moves you to a place where your vision can expand even more for something you couldn’t have previously imagined.

What’s the vision you have?

If it doesn’t feel impossible, you aren’t dreaming big enough.
